Arlo Guthrie Tonight

Arlo Guthrie will headline this year’s Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. The concert is tonight at the Crystal Theatre – show starts at 7:30. Arlo is the eldest son of the festival’s namesake, Oklahoma icon and influential folk  musician Woody Guthrie.

WoodyFest returns for its 13th year in Okemah — Woody Guthrie’s birthplace — July 14-28. Festival grounds are about 70 miles east of Oklahoma City.
Founded in 1998 by the Woody Guthrie Coalition, the festival celebrates the life and musical legacy of one of America’s greatest folk music songwriters and troubadours. It includes indoor and outdoor concerts, panel discussions, children’s events and activities, open mics, poetry readings, spontaneous hootenannies, community outreach activities and more, organizers said.

Crystal History

Built in 1921 as a Vaudeville theatre, the Crystal Theatre was remodeled in 1931 and was inspired by Tulsa’s Ritz Theatre, with floating clouds, twinkling stars, stained glass lights and cut-velvet upholstered seats. With its balcony and orchestra pit, the Crystal Theatre is one of very few historical theatres left in the State of Oklahoma. Most of the original vaudeville theatres have been smothered into extinction by the multi-screen theatres sprouting up in malls across America.
