Crystal History

Built in 1921 as a Vaudeville theatre, the Crystal Theatre was remodeled in 1931 and was inspired by Tulsa’s Ritz Theatre, with floating clouds, twinkling stars, stained glass lights and cut-velvet upholstered seats. With its balcony and orchestra pit, the Crystal Theatre is one of very few historical theatres left in the State of Oklahoma. Most of the original vaudeville theatres have been smothered into extinction by the multi-screen theatres sprouting up in malls across America.

I am still trying to get a good e-mail for Shari Parks. I have been in contact with Ms. Schwan, of the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office, and have gotten a form for initial information with regard to listing the Crystal Theater on the National Register of Historic Places, and perhaps a bit of help in processing a nomination.

Do ask her to e-mail me ASAP so we may progress with this project…
